Twitter tweets big news

It's always big news when a company as well known as twitter first breaks the news of an IPO. But the way twitter told the world was great. What better way for twitter to tell the world than with a tweet of their own.
“We’ve confidentially submitted an S-1 to the S.E.C. for a planned I.P.O.,” was all twitter needed to tweet to start a global debate. It was probably a no brainier for Twitters PR department to use their own service to announce this. I personally just like the simplicity in how they did it. Since this tweet on September 12 twitter has not released any further information. Keep the public in the dark about the detials allows for even more talk about the IPO. The public is not just talking about if they are going to buy this allows for people also to have an opinion on how the stock will be offered. The amount of social media that post generated has to be an outrageous number. I'm sure in a tweet very soon we will get more details but I just love how twitter is stringing us along.

  1. I agree, this was a terrific PR move for Twitter. Many companies release huge press articles that are paragraphs upon paragraphs long on how they are thinking of or getting ready to IPO, but the simplicity that Twitter used was perfect. It stays true to their platform (relaying news while using as few characters as possible) and ignited a flurry of buzz. Great post!
